Appellation type : regional
 
Surface area : 218 ha, in the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire departments shared between two zones: the very north of the vinegrowing area on the borders of the Mâconnais, and to the southwest of Villefranche, mainly in the triangle made up of the communes of Liergues, Le Bois d'Oingt and Bully.
 
Production (in 2006) : 13 119 hl, or 1,7 million of bottles. White Beaujolais is the 'rare pearl' of Beaujolais making up only 1% of the winemaking area's production.
 
White Beaujolais: Yield per hectare : 50 hl/ha
White Beaujolais Villages: Yield per hectare : 52 hl/ha
 
Grape variety : Chardonnay
 
Colour : White
 
Pruning type : trained Guyot, with one or two fruit canes bent over in a semi-circle in the Mâconnais style (cane with 7 or 8 eyes).
 
Number of plants per hectare : 8 500 to 9 500.
 
Soil type : chalk-flint in the north, chalk-clay in the south.
 
Number of vinegrowers : around 200.
 
Vinification : pressing on arrival at the cellar; the must is vatted then racked after 24 to 36 hours or allowed to settle naturally. Fermentation is then set off either naturally or with a starter prepared in advance or by sprinkling in selected yeasts. Alcoholic fermentation lasts from a fortnight to three weeks. Malo-lactic fermentation generally starts spontaneously.
