2009: an exceptional vintage in the Beaujolais region

As far as quality is concerned, tasting the grapes on the vine is a sure sign. With bunches of grapes that were good enough to eat, the beautifully sweet, small berries with thick skins had a perfect sugar-acidity balance… All these elements combined augur an exceptional 2009 vintage. On the volume side, the harvest should be quite small at around 800 000 hectolitres, this is higher than in 2008 but lower than the average of recent years, that is around a million hectolitres.
