We interviewed researchers from the SICAREX Beaujolais, the IFV and the Rh\u00f4ne Chamber of Agriculture to find out. Here is a forecast based on their research and valuable knowledge.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Beaujolais region is a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaujolais.com\/en\/blog\/\"> leading centre in vine and wine research<\/a>, with fifteen or so researchers working on the subject, including studies on plant material, varietal creation, measuring carbon footprint, agronomic experimentations, as well as studies into the expectations of consumers and professionals\u2026 Four experts based in the Beaujolais region share the results of their research as well as their vision of tomorrow\u2019s viticulture.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center highlighted-box has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f8f4ed;grid-template-columns:33% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"2560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beaujolais.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/09\/2024-Bertrand-CHATELET-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9308 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h2><strong>Tomorrow, viticulture will be both resilient and clean<\/strong><\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe viticulture of tomorrow must be resilient in the face of climate change and the hazards it entails. We&#8217;ve been using crutches that are becoming less and less acceptable. In the future, we need to be able to do without them, in other words to produce more cleanly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Bertrand Chatelet, Director of the SICAREX Beaujolais and the Beaujolais-Bourgogne-Jura-Savoie division of the IFV<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h2><strong>Tomorrow, vineyards must include resistant varieties<\/strong><\/h2><\/h2>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:70%\">\n<p><em>\u201cFor several years, we have been exploring the possibility of incorporating other grape varietals to offset the negative effects of global warming. The idea is to find varieties that are resistant to diseases and to the new climatic conditions, and that retain organoleptic qualities. Although I think they will develop, in reality, they will not be able to make up the majority of the vineyard in the near future. The viticulture of tomorrow will continue to rely on them. In the Beaujolais region, we will need to find solutions to continue growing gamay grapes. In my opinion, looking into the issues surrounding it is coming back into fashion. The Beaujolais region has carried out a tremendous amount of research into soils over many years. Today, it provides <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaujolais.com\/en\/a-world-for-every-beaujolais\/pur-terroir-by-beaujolais\/the-beaujolais-vineyard-a-mosaic-of-soils\/\"><em>detailed knowledge of the terroirs<\/em><\/a><em>. The results of this soil mapping exercise have enabled significant progress in this area, which is also helping Beaujolais wines <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaujolais.com\/en\/2024\/07\/25\/futures-beaujolais-premiers-crus\/\"><em>move upmarket<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Thibault Laugaa, head of the viticulture team at the Rh\u00f4ne Chamber of Agriculture. He oversees a team of around 10 advisors who travel across the Beaujolais region advising its winegrowers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center highlighted-box has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f8f4ed;grid-template-columns:auto 30%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><h2><strong>Tomorrow, informed consumers<\/strong><\/h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cOrganic wine, biodynamic, natural, no added sulphites\u2026we can see that there is a great deal of confusion among consumers. Our research very often leads us back to communication and the complexity of the language and information given. Today\u2019s consumers (and those of tomorrow) want greater transparency on what they are drinking. Through their work, researchers have been able to provide some answers to the questions being asked by professionals in the industry.\u00a0 The viticulture of tomorrow is being invented today thanks to research.
